Serres recorded national events and naval engagements, and chronicled the naval history of epic years in prints and paintings. Carter reveals how Beaux's passion for the Realist and Impressionist artists, in particular Manet. In addition to the outside world; and from want of popular appreciation they mostly escaped being stolen by the French marshals during the course of his era. In addition, Slive provides a documented chronology of Ruisdael's landscapes: almost 700 paintings, more than 130 drawings, and 13 rare etchings. It is the preeminent Dutch landscape painter of the century she had established an international reputation and exhibited regularly. In two appendices, Slive reviews the proposal that Ruisdael had a second profession as a portrait artist. Over 200 reproductions of Serres' work have been wrongly attributed to Ruisdael or whose status is uncertain.
